Beck & Band of the Horses at the Orpheum
Friday:
54-40 at the PNE (what? some people like to kick it really old school)
Saturday:
Sondre Lerche at St. James Hall
Sunday:
!!! at Richard's
Neko Case, Destroyer, Andrew Bird, Deerhoof, and the Evaporators at Malkin Bowl (Stanley Park)
Monday:
The New Pornographers, Black Mountain, Stevie Jackson, the 1900s, and Visqueen at Malkin Bowl (Stanley Park)
The Victory Square Block Party (full line up here... oh and the entire thing is free)

road trip anyone?

Good Lord! Seattle's 2008 Capitol Hill Block Party line up just got announced and it's insane. Already confirmed:
Vampire Weekend, Les Savy Fav, The Hold Steady, Girl Talk, Chromeo, Kimya Dawson, The Dodos, U.S.E., Jay Reatard, Darker My Love, Akimbo, The Hands, Pwrfl Power, The Builders & The Butchers, Velella Velella, Past Lives, Black Eyes And Neckties, The Physics, Man Plus, Little Party and Bad Business, Champagne Champagne, + a bunch more acts TBA.
Compounding the insanity - ticket's are $18 for one day, or $34 for a 2 day pass. So to put this in perspective that's just as much insanity as the Pemberton Festival, but at 1/5th the daily cost. VALUE IN THE HOUSE!
Things go down July 25 & July 26th. Full details here. I'm pumped.

quickie: inbox, mark as junk...

You know if you were to use HOB press releases as your source for Vancouver concert listings you could pretty much assume that no good gigs are coming to town anymore.
Ever.
This is where I link to quinn's blog and swak fer all your concert listing goodness.

A second M.I.A. show has been announced at the Commodore. This one takes place on Tuesday November 13th (i.e. a day before the already sold out first show).
Tickets are $30 and go on sale on Friday at 10am. You might want to get on that one quickly.

state of the nation...

For one reason or another a lot of people consider Vancouver to be an epicenter of cool. Luckily, there are HOB press releases to sober us up.

uhhhhhhh...

Am I reading the ticketmaster.ca web page for the upcoming Maximo Park show at The Centre correctly? Has the ticketmaster/live nation business model come to a point where it's ok to sell bad seats AND market them as bad seats? Why not start putting a few chairs down in the venue bathrooms and charge for those too?
Also, based on this, can I get $10 back at any show I go to where a 6 foot tall douche bag with an afro opts to stand right in front of me?
Speaking of shows in Vancouver... this weekend is happily bonkers. There are a zillion shows listed and there's the comedyfest going on. If you happen to have a small mountain of disposable income and a hankering to rapidly erode your hearing, might I suggest you spend the next 5 nights hitting the following shows:
Thursday
- Matthew Good at The Centre
Friday
- Peter Bjorn and John at The Commodore
Saturday
- Tegan & Sara at The Commodore
Sunday
- Diplo vs. Switch at Plush
Monday
- Jason Colett/Josh Rouse at The Plaza Club
Lots more local listings at vancouver indie and blown speakers. Get out there.
