Was it me, or was this weekend the first warm spring weekend of the year? Either way, I spent a lot of time on patios with drinks, listening to tunes. Warm weather just calls for new stuff... so here's some new stuff for yr walkman.

april mixtape = actually ready on time (sorta)...
Note to self: stop compiling these tapes on a 4 year old laptop with a +90% full hard drive, you're missing out on a lot of sleep by working on a slow, clunky POS.
Here's this month's tape... starts out heavy with the guitars, then briefly veers off into sublime electro territory, finally ending with some more acoustic stuff. Well rounded and good to go. Sidebar: I'm really enjoying that new Black Keys album.

february mixtape is good to go...
Yes, it's a couple of days late, but these kind of things are worth the wait... right? right.
You could almost split this month's mix right down the middle into two halves... or, in this case, sides of a tape. The first side is driven by guitar and melody, the second by samples and drum machines. I didn't really plan that, it just turned out that way... with sexy results. Hopefully.

january mixtape: pilfer away..
Welcome to 2008, blog-based pals.
We might as well get the year started off with new music and a new mix. Actually, since nothing new comes out in later half of December, and since there was no actual December mixtape, a lot of the content on this tape reaches back and features stuff I never got a chance to blog-gush about. It's a solid little mix though; it starts strong with the guitar focused stuff and then slips into some sublime synthesized electro stuff. Magically delicious.

free stuff: the vanmega 2007 audio almanac...
Update: lots of interest in this years almanac. yay! if you want a physical copy, email me by Wednesday Dec 12th. after that, only digital copies are up for grabs.
Here we go, internet!
There's no mixtape this month, instead I'm once again handing out copies of the vanmega.com 2007 audio almanac CD. Think of it as a Christmas gift... but one which doesn't require you to give anything in return.
Just like previous years, the audio almanac recaps some of my personal favorite songs of 2007... it's a mix of bands featured on vanmega and some goodies which have yet to be highlighted. The entire mix is based completely on my subjective criteria, and yes there will be fancy covers again.
There are two formats for this years almanac:
1. via CD, which I'll happily create and mail to you (I'll cover postage)
2. via download (a la the monthly mixtapes, as a zipped file containing mp3's, cover art, etc)
Getting your copy is easy... send me and email at vanmega at gmail dot com. Include these details:
- your real name
- your website address (if applicable)
- your preferred method of receiving the almanac - CD via traditional mail, or digital via download
- your real mailing address (if applicable)
- any other witty banter / comments you might have
By Christmas you'll have a copy of the CD waiting in your mail box or inbox for the holidays. Easy, like a Sunday... uh, whatever.
This offer is open to anyone who has read vanmega between 1 and 620 times this year. Please note... regulars of vanmega who I know, love and will see over the Christmas break, you still have to send an email in order to get a copy of the almanac too.

Hooray! Unlike last month's, this month's mixtape is actually on time.
This month's mix might be a bit on the mellow side... but that isn't really a bad thing. Kinda fitting for the fall season's rainy days and darker nights (wow, I'm now writing like a goth. Nice work, me.). Either way, lots of good stuff on the tape like Jose Gonzalez, Pelle Carlberg, and Rogers Wireless endorsed Patrick Watson. Dig in:

september mixtape = finally ready...
Yikes! (Yes, yikes). This month's mixtape is out late. I'd like to give you some big story as to why this is the case, but in reality real life just got in the way of internet life. Tricky... but let's not dwell and focus on teh musics, okay?
This month's tape randomly turned out to be a bit of a slow burner save for a few amped up tracks in the middle. I assure you this has nothing to do with fall peaking its head around the corner. Either way, it's a gooder:

august mixtape = come get it...
Not to get all overly excited or anything, but this month's mixtape is magically delicious and a real return to form. This month's tape is long (17 tracks! over an hour!) and choc full of wonderful guitar riffs and melody and diversity and the like. It can pair with anyone's upcoming long weekend plans... unless, you know, you're going to a NASCAR race or whatever.

the june mixtape is ready to go...
I'm gonna keep it short... 'cause it's late.
14 tracks of current awesomeness. 2 things stand out on this tape: (1) this tape seems to be full of known/established bands... but I don't think this is a bad thing, rather just a symptom of all the good new stuff coming out right nowish, (2) this tape was built to be listened to with headphones.
Oh, and (3) how great is that new Spoon disk?
