Because I'm a sucker for punishment, I entered the 2003 nanowrimo novel writing competition. The premise is simple, between November 1st and November 30th, you're required to create and produce a 50,000 word novel. The competition is only against yourself. The competition is an exercise to see if you have the focus and stamina to complete writing an entire novel within 30 days. If you complete this, you win the right to go to cocktail parties, be presumptuous, and tell everyone about the novel you've written. The novel isn't supposed to perfect, polished, or even that good, but rather it should be raw and unedited. Sounds good, sign me up. Update: Yeah... December 1st has come and gone. The competition is well over, and I haven't hit 50,000 words. With that said, and based on the amount of people who have taken an interest in Rockets, I'm going to keep writing until completion of the novel. If you keep reading, I'll keep writing. As always, feedback is appreciated. The theme and plot of Waiting For The Rockets was based on an email I received:
From there 50,000 words will (hopefully) unfold. I hope the carpel-tunnel syndrome I develop from excessive typing keeps you entertained all month. If you read the chapters published below, send feedback (good, bad, whatever). |
