**DMB WAREHOUSE ANALYSIS by ZEB circa fall 1999**To: Rob, DaveSubject: and nowwww...deep thoughts with jack handyThe warehouse can be a mental state or a real place where there is definatesecurity. its frightening because you can become stagnant in such a secureplace (here i sit life goes on) and not look for anything better.but when you start thinking about "what if" then you see that its the warehousethat has you tied up in knots and is keeping you from bettering things bystepping outside its walls, and as you see that all the fear in taking risksis nothing really to fear at all (black cat changing colors, walk under ladders...)the warehouse seems to become empty and even though it is a safe place itconfines you from finding anything better.so as you start to wonder if maybe things could be better....the warehousestarts to look empty, and the walls start to fall and you see that even thoughyou'd love to stay here in the warehouse, there's nothing really there to defendanyway, so "i'm going away"i think the versus ("hey reckless mind", "hey we have found, becoming one in amillion", "shut up i'm thinking") are representive of the inner conflict toleave the warehouse and go find what could be out there for you before you"slip into the crowd" and "become one in a million".that is what the basic idea is at least for me, but dave always leaves his songsopen for interpretation and rarely tells what they're about. he just saysyour guess is as good as mine.(in charlottesville, nc where dave lived and worked, there is a real place theycalled the warehouse. it is where he and his friends partied and hung out.so you can see that it could become a place of security and could keep him fromtaking some risks like deciding to play his musicfor more people than just those he knew in the warehouse)***
